Council highlights new mural project and $39,000 grant for library, senior center technology

City Manager Ogden reported that he signed paperwork that morning to receive a grant of "a little over $39,000" to fund technology upgrades for the Sweet Home library and the senior center. Mayor Coleman and council members publicly thanked Director Daisy and noted the library's ongoing community service. "I just wanna mention that this morning I signed paperwork for it to receive a grant for a little over 39,000 for technology for the library and for the senior center," Ogden said.
Council also celebrated a recently completed mural project. Coleman described a 2023 ad hoc Arts and Culture committee that solicited mural concepts, used a jury to select submissions, and helped secure funding from the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians, the Sweet Home Community Foundation, and Pacific Power. Coleman said the mural elements were chosen to reflect Sweet Home and that the project has generated interest from local businesses. "That mural was awesome... I think the artist did a wonderful job," Ogden said.
Councilors discussed possible future mural work and noted other muralists will produce pieces on plywood to be placed in town; the mayor said selected artists are booked through the rest of the year.
