Wilco EDP reports 3,467 jobs and $2.5 billion in new investment; outlines five-year strategy

Dave Porter, executive director of the Williamson County Economic Development Partnership (Wilco EDP), presented the EDP's annual results and a five-year strategic plan that targets advanced manufacturing (including semiconductors), agricultural technology, life sciences and defense/aerospace. Porter said the county saw 30 primary-employer announcements this fiscal year representing 3,467 jobs and $2.5 billion in new capital investment; the Wilco EDP was directly involved in eight of those projects, which the presentation said will generate roughly $10.3 million in net new tax revenue for the county over the next decade from those eight projects alone.
Porter also described marketing and workforce initiatives in the plan, including domestic marketing missions, international outreach in Korea and Taiwan, creation of a countywide workforce council, and use of the Wilco Spaceport designation for business attraction. "For every dollar you spend with EDP, you're getting $22 back in new tax revenue," Porter told the court as he summarized the EDP's stated return on investment. Commissioners thanked the partnership and discussed balancing growth with farmland preservation and local workforce retention.
