City Clerk Peggy Farrell briefed the Board on new state law HB 1041, which authorizes 24-hour operation by establishments holding liquor licenses during the World Cup period of June 11–July 19, 2026, unless a municipality chooses to opt out by ordinance.
Farrell told the Board that if Owensville wishes to exempt local bars and restaurants from the law’s temporary hours they must pass an ordinance before that period. The Board’s consensus at the Oct. 20 meeting was to allow establishments to remain open 24 hours during the World Cup window if they wish to do so; no ordinance to opt out was introduced at this meeting.
