Chair proposes wetlands manual, updated maps and regular regulation review

Chairman Barry Brown told the commission he has begun drafting materials and actions he believes the commission should undertake to improve consistency and continuity. "He has begun writing up some things that he feels needs to be done for the Wetlands Commission," Brown said, and listed a wetlands manual, a good PDF copy of regulations (and printed copies for members), updated wetland maps and areal photos, and continuing-education options.
Commissioner Eric Whiting noted that wetland boundaries and conditions change over time and suggested obtaining updated maps from the conservation contact who had attended a recent meeting. Chairman Brown also proposed adding regulation review as a standing agenda item so the commission does not need to call separate meetings solely to address regulations. Mr. O'Connor suggested members each think about how they would define a wetland and what constitutes a water source before the next meeting.
The discussion resulted in direction for members to review the first section of proposed regulation edits ahead of the next meeting and to explore continuing-education opportunities (including a DEEP program), but no formal vote or regulatory change was taken at this session.
