The North Canaan Recreation Commission voted to increase the spring softball registration fee from $30 to $35 to reduce a recurring shortfall in the program budget. Treasurer Marilisa Camardi moved the increase and Ms. Roussis seconded; the motion carried.
Director Adam Bunce said spring softball “always comes up short,” and commissioners briefly discussed whether neighboring towns in Region 1 contribute funds toward softball. Treasurer Marilisa Camardi, who later reported the commission’s balance, pressed the motion to ensure the program has adequate revenue going into the season.
The commission did not set a separate subsidy or formal inter-town contribution at this meeting; members noted further conversations could occur about requesting funds from other towns. The fee change is intended to cover immediate seasonal shortfalls and keep registration open for players.
