Council hears $38,000 estimate for Well #1 repairs; state PFAS sampling required

City Foreman Spencer Cumley told the council that Well #1 had tripped breakers and that Sargent Drilling recommended replacing the control box and rebuilding the drive shaft as the likely repairs. Cumley said the crew placed a temporary third fuse and Sargent reported the pumps themselves were still serviceable; Sargent estimated total repair work could be around $38,000 and said two water samples must be submitted before the well is returned to service.
Council Member Susan Eisenhauer also updated the council on pond repairs: aqua block layering at the pond ran short and an engineer from the Nebraska Game & Parks met with city crew members to locate a leak. Foreman Cumley added that the State required another round of PFAS sampling — the last round cost about $2,300 — and the council discussed budgeting for both the sampling and the well repairs.
