The Pawnee City Council on June 22 was updated that deeds to two nuisance parcels — the Johnson and Parker properties — have been signed over to the Pawnee County Development Corporation, removing the need for abatement hearings and allowing PCDC to proceed with demolition plans. City Attorney Jennifer Stehlik-Ladman said the deeds have been “officially signed over to PCDC,” and Council Member Susan Eisenhauer confirmed PCDC had been waiting on the properties before scheduling demolition at the Malik parcel.
Council members reviewed a list of other problem properties and discussed options including abatement, filing liens for mowing and abatement costs, or foreclosing on a deed of trust where a Housing Rehab program reconveyance had been breached. Clerk/Treasurer Tamela Curtis noted that the Trimmer property carries a USDA loan and that existing liens could complicate a public sale. The council agreed to prioritize follow-up on the Moore, Compton, Kara Lee and Trimmer properties and directed staff to pursue liens and abatement steps as appropriate.
