Two residents told the Board of Aldermen that gravel runoff from driveways on NW 50th Street is causing property damage, drainage problems and ongoing maintenance costs. "This is not simply an inconvenience. It creates property damage, drainage hazards, cleanup costs, and ongoing frustration for homeowners who are doing everything they can to maintain their own property responsibly," resident Megan Craig said.
Zeruiah Hinson described how being at the bottom of the street causes gravel to accumulate at his property, saying, "All the gravel that just comes down the hill literally just piles up in the corner of my yard." The board discussed possible solutions, including prohibiting gravel driveways and requiring paving, but members noted the cost would be prohibitive for many homeowners.
Mayor Lynda Wilson proposed continuing the discussion at the next meeting with broader participation and suggested sending letters to all property owners with gravel driveways to invite them to a follow-up meeting. The board agreed to move the issue to the next meeting to seek resident input and workable solutions.
