District outlines special-education training, psychologist assessments and health trainings ahead of school year

Melanie Grundy, director of special education and student services, told the board the district is preparing multiple professional-development sessions and trainings ahead of the 2026–27 school year. Her list included a new-teacher orientation for special-education teachers and related service providers (speech-language pathologists and occupational therapists), a literacy Tier-3 curriculum planning day scheduled for Aug. 3, and Cyrus IEP online-system training for staff unfamiliar with the district’s IEP platform.
Grundy also said a trainer will provide additional assessment training for school psychologists—covering cognitive behavior therapy concepts and student assessments so psychologists can provide more direct services—and that she has coordinated with the district nurse to schedule CPR and other health trainings during the first weeks of school. The board received the update and thanked staff for the preparation.
