Daniel Alvarez, who identified himself as a representative of the North Coast Carpenters Union, used the meeting’s public-comment period to raise concerns about labor practices at a nearby construction project. “There’s an email thread… It concerns the project that is actually being built right behind the school district…and a lot of workers are being misclassified and, underpaid,” Alvarez said.
Alvarez told the board the email thread is included in the meeting minutes and said the union looks forward to meeting with district staff. The board did not take action on the comment during the meeting; public comment was followed by a motion to adjourn to closed session and later routine business when the board returned to open session.
