EMS reports near-miss and $17,400 county grant for equipment or training

EMS Supervisor Nathan Rohrbough told the council that one ambulance in the fleet had a near-miss in February: the crew swerved to avoid a car that pulled out in front of the vehicle on Buckhannon Pike and struck signage rather than the other vehicle. He said that ambulance is expected to be back in service next week and that, with new ambulances in service, maintenance costs should fall in coming months.
Rohrbough said two part‑time EMTs have joined the department and call volume has increased. He also reported "$17,400 is coming from the county as a grant for EMS equipment and/or training," and that a smaller amount will be allocated to the fire department. The fire chief also asked council members and residents to provide letters of support to Congressman Riley Moore's office for an unrelated grant application noted in the fire department report.
