Wastewater surveillance shows low COVID signal; arbovirus risk remains low, board reminds residents to take mosquito precautions

Dr. Matt Wason updated the board on the ID decision-support tool and local surveillance: wastewater monitoring continues to show very low levels of COVID (not detected in recent samples), and arbovirus testing remains low risk for Littleton though mosquitoes with West Nile virus have been detected closer to Boston. "Wastewater numbers of COVID continues to remain really, really low," Dr. Wason said, noting seasonal patterns and that longer mosquito season increases risk.
The board stressed that while there are no local human or animal positives for West Nile or arboviruses, residents should practice mosquito precautions: use repellant, wear protective clothing during dusk hours, and attend to yard maintenance. The board will continue to monitor surveillance results and report significant changes to the public.
