CPS plans programmatic investments, playground refurbishments and 'Space to Grow' partnerships

Vinny Dye said the FY27 proposal includes over $25 million in programmatic capital investments for pre‑K, libraries, arts, nutrition, student recreation and athletic resources, and cited a $5,000,000 outside funding commitment for stadium and swimming pool refurbishments from Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity grants.
Dye also highlighted the district's 'Space to Grow' partnership with the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District and the Chicago Department of Water Management, saying the partnership has completed 41 elementary school yards with green upgrades and has four more projects under construction. He characterized the partnership as providing supplemental funding, new outdoor spaces and additional stormwater retention benefits for neighborhoods.
Officials said anticipated outside funding of $10.6 million will support playgrounds and site improvements across the district; they described those figures as anticipated rather than finalized funding sources.
