CPS cites multiyear ADA capital investment strategy, says over 400 schools now first‑floor usable

Chicago Public Schools officials said ADA accessibility is a central priority for the FY27 capital plan and pointed to a multiyear strategy developed with the mayor’s office for people with disabilities. "Accessibility remains a critical capital priority for Chicago Public Schools," Vinny Dye said, and he noted incremental progress with "over 400 schools being 1st Floor usable."
Dye explained accessibility measures can appear within different project categories and are not limited to standalone ADA projects; ramps, elevators and other elements may be incorporated into exterior envelope, mechanical or interior modernization work. The district said it will continue to invest annually to expand accessibility improvements across campuses.
