Chicago Public Schools on July 22 presented a proposed FY27 capital budget of $600,430,000 that district officials said would prioritize neighborhood school facility needs, mechanical systems, ADA accessibility and technology upgrades. "The objective for today's presentation is to provide an overview of the proposed FY27 capital budget and obtain feedback from stakeholders," said Ivan Hanson, Chief Facilities Officer.
Vinny Dye, executive director of capital planning and construction, outlined the plan's major categories and funding approach. He said the budget will be funded primarily by future general obligation bonds, with additional anticipated support from tax‑increment financing, state funds and other outside resources as they are identified. Dye said the plan directs more than $340 million toward critical facility needs and preserves funding lines for interior improvements, programmatic investments and IT upgrades.
District staff noted the proposal reflects input from community engagement sessions and a survey that drew more than 6,600 responses. Officials directed residents to an interactive capital plan website for project‑level details and invited further written comments through July 23.
The hearing closed after a brief public comment period; the board will consider the capital recommendations at upcoming meetings as part of the FY27 budget process.
