Heritage Pines board outlines targeted cleanup for wetland NWRA‑33

The Heritage Pines Community Development District Board of Supervisors on Feb. 18, 2025 reviewed a targeted cleanup plan for wetland NWRA‑33 and the adjacent perimeter, focusing on dead shrubs and invasive vegetation.
Chair Kathleen Lonergan read the scope submitted by Environmental Solutions, saying, “The task is for removal and disposal of several dead or dying bushes around the perimeter and wetland NWRA‑33, specifically including the two dead oak and maple tree branches, southwest portion of the area, adjacent to water lilies.” The plan calls for cutting or selectively treating vines at water level, hand pulling standing weeds and using herbicide selectively to knock back—but not fully eliminate—canopy vines.
The board emphasized limits on what can be removed: Lonergan noted crews will not remove material larger than 5" in diameter and that the District Engineer, who was not present, coordinated the scope with ES and will determine final boundaries and approvals. Resident Tom Martin had earlier flagged a dead tree near 18906 Rolling Hills Loop; the board said the engineer will investigate and coordinate follow‑up with Grounds Superintendent Tim Gatz.
The District will proceed with the ES scope where crews can safely access the wetland perimeter. No formal contract vote on the ES scope was recorded at this meeting; the board discussed differences between the ES hand‑work approach and a forestry mulching method proposed by A‑Z Tree Service.
