Student co-captain John Roberts told the council, "We've raised about $33,000. We need about $40,000," and asked the town for assistance to close the roughly $7,000 shortfall. Nathan Arnold, CNCC's aviation program director, described travel costs that total about $40,000 for a roughly 14-day trip and noted the team is one of only two two-year schools in the nation to advance to nationals.
Council members discussed funding levels in the public giving account (about $6,000 available) and proposed a $3,500 contribution; the motion was made and seconded and carried. The team said it will continue local fundraising and said hosting regional competitions in Rangely next year could bring additional economic activity.
Council members expressed support for the program and encouraged the team to return if additional funding is required.
