The Rangely Town Council approved a corrected Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Colorado Northwestern Community College (CNCC) that clarifies the college’s and the town’s responsibilities when incidents occur on campus. The council discussed a clerical issue where a prior draft referenced Craig; members confirmed corrections would be made before finalizing the document.
"The MOU ... spells out their responsibility and our responsibility and our implied, cooperation," the chief said, describing the document as a useful point-of-contact tool for criminal investigations on campus. The chief added that nothing substantive in the agreement changed and that CNCC’s cooperation has been effective since the MOU’s earlier implementation.
Councilors also discussed whether the agreement should align to an academic year (July 1–June 30) instead of a calendar year; staff said CNCC prefers academic-year timing for budgeting reasons and that the town had no objection. A motion to approve the corrected MOU for academic years 2025–26 and 2026–27 was offered, seconded, and carried on voice vote.
