VFW representative asks council for $75,000 to restore veterans and first-responders center features; council approves

The presenter said the group had previously relied on federal and state contributions and had removed features through "value engineering" after COVID-related price increases; the VFW representative said the $75,000 would restore the curtain-wall glass (about $50,000) and reconnect a kitchen/grill to the gas line. "Now we're asking come here today to ask for $75,000 donation," the presenter said.
Council members expressed support and noted the project has received state and federal funding in addition to town contributions. After discussion one council member moved to appropriate $75,000 from the general fund surplus for construction of the new Veterans and First Responders Center at 1 Veteran Circle in Trumbull to serve Shelton and neighboring towns; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. No roll-call tally was recorded during the meeting.
