Fortuna council approves hiring-exception requests for Parks admin assistant and police chief recruitment

Separately, the council approved an exception to begin recruitment for a permanent police chief because Interim Chief Matt Eberhardt will leave city employment at the end of 2026. Staff said the department has 28.13 allocated positions and recommended starting recruitment early to allow for candidate overlap so the incoming chief can receive mentorship from Eberhardt; a supporter in the audience, identified as department staff, thanked the city manager for planning ahead.
