The Hartshorne City Council voted Jan. 21 to lease the Armory to a proposed Hartshorne Community Center for $1.00 per month. The lease, approved by motion of Councilor Sheryl Baker and seconded by James Shaw, includes utilities and grounds maintenance; the council recorded that repairs will be needed, including the roof, broken windows, bathroom stalls and kitchen cabinets.
According to the minutes, the lease is scheduled to begin May 1, 2025, with a ribbon cutting planned for May 3, 2025. The council and proponents discussed that existing city properties require work and that leasing the Armory is part of addressing underused facilities. A website was cited in the minutes: Hartshornecommunitycenter.com.
