Council endorses youth civics program titled “Inside Public Safety: Meet Your First Responders”
Summary
Council gave conceptual approval to a Summer Youth Civics Program for middle school students, tentatively set for June 12, 2026 at the Ponce Inlet Community Center, and agreed to invite participants to observe a future Council meeting.
Cultural Services Manager Alex presented a conceptual Summer Youth Civics Program designed to introduce middle school students to local government and to highlight public safety services provided by the Police, Fire and Public Works departments. Staff proposed holding the event on June 12, 2026 at the Ponce Inlet Community Center and solicited Council direction on program title and participation elements.
Council selected the title "Inside Public Safety: Meet Your First Responders" and agreed to invite program participants to attend a Council meeting as part of the experience. Resident Liz Finch spoke in support of the program and offered volunteer assistance as a former middle school teacher.
