Council awards $1.16 million contract to Meece Construction for Skyview at Webb Phase 1
Summary
Council approved the low bid award for Skyview at Webb Phase 1 public improvements (water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer and street paving) to Meece Construction after staff recommended the low, responsible bid. The Council also selected a construction inspection firm and approved inspection funding.
Bel Aire’s City Council authorized award of the public improvements contract for Skyview at Webb Phase 1 and approved inspection services to support construction.
City engineer Anne Stevens told the council the bids were opened and "Meece construction was the low bid by approximately 200,000." Councilmember Emily Hamburg read the contract amount on the record and moved to approve the bid; after a brief clerical clarification of the cents value the motion passed 5–0. The recorded contract amount read into the record was $1,163,439.89.
The council then considered proposals for construction inspection services. Stevens recommended part-time observation and noted both firms were qualified; staff noted a substantial price difference in the quotes. Council approved an inspection contract with Boffman Company (a not-to-exceed amount of $68,250) and authorized the mayor to sign the necessary documents.
The public improvements will be financed through a bond issue and repaid via special assessments on the properties that benefit from the work. Staff and the selected contractor will now proceed with project administration and coordination.
