FDOT proposes wrong-way detection pilot on I-95 ramps; one-year project estimated at $1.5 million

Town Clerk Dorothy Gravelin reported that the Florida Department of Transportation is proposing an Advanced Wrong Way Driving Detection pilot for I-95 interchange exit ramps at Southern Blvd., Congress Avenue in Boca Raton, and Yamato Road. The system would flash DO NOT ENTER signs to the driver and alert the Regional Transportation Management Center when a wrong-way driver is detected.
Gravelin said a public information workshop will be scheduled before the project start, targeted for fall 2026, and that the one-year pilot is estimated to cost about $1.5 million.
