Councilman Paul Trunzo reported that the Glassport Fire Department had 44 calls in December and 596 calls for the year 2024, and that personnel logged 1,258 man-hours of training. The department secured a FEMA grant for a new fitness center expected to be completed in the first half of 2025.
Trunzo also said the department received a staffing study from the Pennsylvania Fire and Emergency Services Institute recommending the establishment of a stipend program to staff the fire station. The department is exploring funding options to enact the stipend program to improve staffing and public safety coverage. Council did not take a separate formal vote on staffing changes during the meeting.
