Hillman highlighted a grant to start a plumbing program "right about around a $50,000 grant to start a plumbing program next year" and described partnerships with Blue Ridge CTC, Shepherd University and local foundations to expand career pathways. He said the department will subsidize some AP exam costs and provide supplemental pay for after-school AP preparation.
Board members pressed for more granular retrospective data on AP pass rates and dual-enrollment outcomes; Hillman agreed to provide multi-year percentages and to work on making course-to-credit equivalency information more publicly accessible so students and families can better understand transfer and NCAA implications.
The board approved a separate agenda item to add Transition Math for Seniors (math 100 / math 100A) as a dual-credit option with Blue Ridge CTC; members asked the administration to publish an accessible database or scheduling sheets to show course equivalencies and any NCAA impact.
