District says Shepherdstown Elementary on track to open second semester; Washington High gym work underway

Miss White said Shepherdstown is "up to seeding the grass, grading, finish work on the inside" and is "slated and on tap to open that school 2nd semester this year." She told the board Shepherdstown will reach substantial completion around Sept. 19, after which staff will work a punch list and add furniture in preparation for a midyear opening. The presentation highlighted classroom built-ins, charging stations for laptops, a pre-K observation room with one-way glass intended to support a partnership with Shepherd University, and a full perimeter fence with gates not yet installed.
Regarding Washington High, Miss White showed progress on an auxiliary gym addition, including walls and initial piling and plumbing work; she said that project should be complete in late March or early April. Board members asked timing and specific finish details; Miss White answered with completion milestones and noted ongoing work to finalize systems and finishes.
