City Engineer Jared Bogie presented two Xcel Energy streetlight agreements for council authorization on March 9, saying the Crystal Lane/1st Street North package amounts to $173,051.98 and that a second agreement for the Lemerman Industrial area appears in the packet as "12350320." Jared said staff had originally budgeted roughly $208,000 and that additional capital funds will cover the higher final amounts.
Jared explained the contracts will be split by project area and that the vendor is finalizing design and a schedule after payment and agreement execution. "Once the payment is made and that they'll finalize the design, and then they'll get us a schedule," Jared said. Council authorized staff to execute the agreements by voice vote recorded as 4-0.
Council members asked for clearer estimating practices going forward so the city can better predict costs. Staff said completing this year's work will provide better data for subsequent project estimates.
