Council honors longtime firefighter Alan Mortensen as he retires

The City Council approved resolution 2026-11 at its March 9 meeting to formally recognize the retirement of firefighter Alan Mortensen, effective Feb. 10, 2026. The council recorded a unanimous voice vote supporting the resolution.
Kevin, speaking for the Montrose Fire Department, told the council Mortensen served more than 28 years with the department, including several years as a chief officer. "This is the formal resolution accepting Alan Mortensen's retirement from the Montrose Fire Department effective 02/10/2026, after he served over 28 years with the fire department," Kevin said. Councilmembers offered brief acknowledgments of Mortensen's service during the meeting.
The resolution passed 4-0, and the council recorded the retirement as accepted. No additional action or successor appointment was recorded at the meeting.
