Committee advances bill expanding waterskiing on public waters with safety limits

Representative Sauter presented H 887 to the Senate Resources & Environment Committee on March 26, saying the bill expands the area allowed for waterskiing activities from a short slalom course to all public bodies of water while continuing to require a mirror so the boat driver can visually monitor the skier and restricting waterskiing to certain times of day.
Vice Chairman Hart asked which other states permit the activities authorized by the bill; Representative Sauter listed Florida, Texas, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and Alaska, noting that some of these states include high-traffic boating areas. After questions, Senator Taylor moved and Senator Harris seconded a do-pass motion to send H 887 to the Senate floor; the committee carried the motion by voice vote.
