Traffic cones pilot on County Road 39 draws mixed reviews; board to collect more data

"We have the data. It proves that it works," a highway official said, summarizing internal speed and volume measurements. Several board members responded that the pilot has produced mixed public feedback and more rigorous analysis is required; one member said GPS and cost data should be compiled and presented to the traffic task force before deciding whether to make the changes permanent.
Members also emphasized limits on town authority because County Road 39 is a county asset and suggested pursuing county and state buy-in, and potential federal Community Project Funding, to finance long-term fixes. The board asked staff and the task force to gather additional GPS, cost, and crash data over the summer and reconvene in August to assess whether the pattern is reducing collisions and is financially sustainable.
