Board approves AT&T phone‑service renewal; staff to move non‑emergency lines into dispatch system
Summary
The board unanimously approved renewing AT&T phone services and adding a circuit that will move non‑emergency city lines into the police dispatch phone system (reducing dependence on the city’s Mitel system). Staff said the change should reduce intermittent failures for outbound dispatcher calls.

Greg (Staff member) briefed the board on a proposed renewal of the city’s AT&T phone‑services contract that adds a third circuit and moves nonemergency numbers into the police department’s platform to eliminate intermittent failures tied to the city’s Mitel middleman. “These are not the 911 calls… these are non emergency calls that go into the 911 phone system so dispatchers can answer those non emergencies,” Greg said, explaining the change is meant to stabilize outbound and internal call paths used by dispatchers and alarm companies.
Greg and Chris described technical constraints: while SIP trunking is used broadly, 911 systems still require legacy interfaces (PRI copper and serial connections) for location and CAD data. Greg said the added circuit increases the monthly cost by roughly $400 but lowers the per‑circuit cost overall; finance will handle internal chargebacks and IT will manage the account. After discussion on vendor options and back‑out clauses, the board moved and approved the contract renewal by unanimous vote.
