The Waukesha City Information Technology Board voted unanimously to adopt a new IT acceptable‑use policy that consolidates previously scattered rules and clarifies user responsibilities for city devices. Chris (Staff member) described the document as a single, plain-language policy for all users that will be part of onboarding. “We're gonna give you a laptop…what can you and can you not do with that asset?” Chris said during his presentation.
The policy lists prohibited uses, affirms there is no expectation of privacy for city accounts, and specifies approved cloud platforms (Azure/SharePoint/OneDrive). Chris also told the board the city will roll out 1Password to staff, replacing LastPass, to reduce insecure password storage. The board moved to approve the policy, and a roll-call vote recorded unanimous approval.
