The Montrose Fire Department reported that June had an unusual mix: nearly the same number of non-EMS calls as EMS calls, a month-over-month increase of 10 calls, and a year-to-date decrease of seven calls compared with last year. Corey, representing the fire department, said much of the non-EMS activity was tied to natural gas leak responses and community events.
“Item number 2 before you tonight is a resolution accepting Finnegan DeWitt as a reserve firefighter, effective 06/23/2026,” Corey said. The council moved and approved the resolution (Resolution 2026-34) by a 4–0 vote. The speaker noted that as a reserve, DeWitt is not covered under the city's PERA pension plan and will attend Hennepin Tech's fire science program. Council welcomed the new reserve firefighter during the meeting.
