CPS highlights ADA progress, plans $6 million for increased first-floor accessibility

Officials said accessibility is a continuing priority in the district’s multi-year capital work. Vinny Dye said the district "will invest about $6,000,000 to increase accessibility in schools across the district as a part of the multi year program to ensure that all CPS buildings have 1st Floor accessibility." He added that the district has worked with the mayor’s office for people with disabilities and that more than 400 schools already have first-floor usability progress.
Dye and Hansen framed ADA work as embedded both in direct ADA projects and as elements in broader capital projects; they invited continued public input on accessibility priorities via the district’s capital-plan website.
