Safe Dormitories Act (SB2342) debated and tabled after questions about scope and fiscal note

Chair described SB2342, the Safe Dormitories Act, as a measure requiring public institutions of higher learning and community colleges to report to their boards on dormitory safety measures, including definitions of coeducational and single-sex accommodations, bathroom arrangements, curfews and age-related policies. "What this bill does, it requires the public institutions of higher learning to make a report ... to look at what is being done in regards to making sure that they have safe dormitories," the chair said.
Senator Delano questioned whether IHL and the college board already could provide this information without statute and asked about a fiscal note; the chair said no fiscal note existed and that the boards could provide reports when asked. Senator Delano then moved to table the bill, the motion carried and the chair announced the bill would be tabled.
