The Sutherlin City Council unanimously approved an amendment to municipal code SMC 2.05.095(b) to correct language that conflicted with Oregon Revised Statutes.
Staff reported the existing code incorrectly allowed a nonresident to serve on the budget committee with a mayoral nomination, which conflicts with state law. "This ordinance would correct that verbiage," the clerk said during the staff report. Councilors moved, seconded and recorded unanimous 'Aye' votes and the motion carried.
The adoption was procedural: the ordinance updates code language to align with state statute and does not create new committee seats or change substantive appointment processes. The ordinance passed on the council floor at this meeting.
