The Enfield Planning & Zoning Commission voted 6–1 on July 23 to approve a special permit for a freestanding ground sign for Russell Speeders Car Wash at 54 Hazard Avenue.
Jeremy Weicott, representing ARNCO Signs, described the proposal as a replacement of an existing ground sign: "They're looking to put up a 4 by 8 monument sign at a 6 foot overall height," he said, adding the sign would have small LED channel letters. Staff confirmed the request complies with the zoning requirements for a freestanding sign and that Jeremy had begun the original plan review.
At roll call on the motion, Commissioner Frank Alaimo said he would vote no, explaining he had opposed the car‑wash approval previously and continued to believe the location was not appropriate. The motion otherwise carried, 6–1, and staff will file the 25 conditions noted in the packet as part of the permit.
