Landmarks Commission honors WT Lyle Building and posthumously recognizes David Kopp

The Landmarks Commission awarded two recognitions for 2025: a Certificate of Merit to the W.T. Lyle Building (910–914 Clinton Street) for restoration of window trim and parapet repairs, and the John Schenkeck Spirit of Preservation Award to the late David Kopp in recognition of his long service as the commission’s staff advisor and secretary.
Charlie reviewed the W.T. Lyle Building nomination and noted the property's commercial Queen Anne features and restoration work on the window trims and upper-level masonry. On the Schenkeck award, Charlie and other members recounted Kopp’s decades of service (staff advisor/secretary from 1984 through 2010) and his role in achieving multiple historic-district designations and restorations, including Manisca and Hobo Spring. Charlie said Kopp “helped preserve the city he was deeply passionate about.”
Commissioners moved and approved both nominations by voice vote. Members thanked those who prepared nominations and noted the city will notify award recipients or families.
