The Waukesha Common Council unanimously approved a short-term contract authorizing city inspectors to provide commercial construction inspection support to the City of Brookfield for up to six months.
Jennifer Andrews told the council Brookfield contacted the city after losing construction inspectors and that Waukesha staff could assist on a limited basis. “This is a short 6 month contract to assist them, and our inspections will always come first,” Andrews said, adding that a termination clause allows the city to end the agreement if it conflicts with local priorities.
Alderman (speaker 4) noted the city is not offering the service for free: the contract charges Brookfield $52 per hour, and the city emphasized it will protect local inspection capacity. The motion to approve was moved and seconded; the council approved the contract unanimously.
Staff said the arrangement is intended to be cooperative and temporary while Brookfield pursues permanent staffing; the agreement will be monitored for operational impact on Waukesha inspections.
