Residents press city on short-term rental problems after late-night police response

Multiple residents told the city council that short-term rentals in their neighborhoods are generating crime, noise and public-health concerns. Dr. Robin Jones described a property she identified as a VRBO/Airbnb that is “overrun with weeds” and has produced odor and pest problems; she said police responded last week to an arrest at that address.
"There is a Vrbo. It's a rental property. Unfortunately, there's illicit activity coming from that property," Dr. Robin Jones said during public comment and asked code enforcement and the police department to follow up. Jay Brock, whose comments echoed Jones, said he observed Visalia Police surrounding a home on July 13 and that a conversion of a single-family home to a duplex had led to frequent occupant turnover.
Mayor Isherwood and staff said they would pass the complaint information to code enforcement and the police for investigation. Council requested staff contact the speakers for documentation; Dr. Jones said she would provide logs, photos and license-plate numbers when staff calls her.
