The Sweet Home Planning Commission voted to recommend City Council approve ZMA 26-01, a zone map amendment that would change approximately 2,687 square feet of Tax Lot 10100 from residential high density (R‑3) to Public Facility. Staff said the change aligns the zoning with the comprehensive plan and that no conditions of approval are proposed for the zone change.
Planning staff noted utilities and transportation networks are sufficient to serve the school parcel after the change, that the statewide wetlands inventory shows an intermittent drainage to Cotton Creek on the properties, and that the amendment is being processed concurrently with PLA 26-02. Kevin Strong, the school district's business manager, testified the district needs the zone change to acquire and use the property: “My understanding is that for the school district to acquire and utilize this property, it needs to have this change.” After no public testimony, commissioners voted to recommend approval to the City Council, which will hold the final hearing and decision.
The commission recorded its recommendation without amendment; staff will place the zone-change item on the City Council agenda for final action.
