Mass Save case studies: historic Provincetown meeting house, dental practice, treatment center show energy and cost savings
Summary
Program sponsors showcased three projects: Provincetown Meeting House upgrades (multi-zone heat pumps, ERVs, insulation) estimated to save ~300 MMBtu and ~17 metric tons CO2; a dental office saved ~5 MMBtu and ~4,000 kWh; a treatment center retrofit saved roughly $25,000 annually with ~35% energy cost reduction.

Laura Carey presented three case studies to illustrate small-business and nonprofit projects supported by Mass Save sponsors. She described the Unitarian Universalist Meeting House in Provincetown (a Cape Light Compact project) where cold‑climate multi‑zone heat pumps, ERVs, thermostats, and insulation were installed in the 1830 building; the project estimated "an annual savings of a little over 300 MMBtus, which was equivalent to a reduction of 17 metric tons of CO2 emissions."
Carey also described an Eversource project at Smile Works Dentistry that combined lighting and envelope upgrades with heat pumps and yielded about "5 MMBtu and a little over 4,000 annual KWH savings." A National Grid project at High Point Treatment Center upgraded nearly 800 fixtures to LED using approximately $36,000 of incentives and delivered an estimated $25,000 annual savings and a 35% energy cost reduction. Carey used these examples to show how sponsors combine assessments, incentives and turnkey installations to reduce operating costs for mission-driven organizations.
