Committee sends SNAP cleanup bill (HB 903) to the floor with due‑pass recommendation

Representative Jordan Redmond told the committee that House Bill 903 clarifies which items are eligible under the state's SNAP rules and that an RS will follow to strike several low‑nutrition items such as cookies, cakes, brownies, sprinkles, chips and certain snack bars. "We're looking to strike out cookies, cakes, brownies...and chips," Redmond said while describing intended RS changes.
Pam Eaton, president and CEO of the Idaho Retailers Association, testified the stakeholders behind the draft include grocery and processing associations and thanked sponsors for addressing inconsistencies that had created confusion for retailers and consumers. "We want to thank the sponsors for bringing this forward," Eaton said. After brief discussion about timing and amendments, the committee voted to send HB 903 to the floor with a due‑pass recommendation and place it on the second‑reading calendar.
