City staff recommend $569,891 renewal for 2026-27 property/liability coverage

City finance staff and the city's insurance broker reviewed the 2026-2027 Property/Liability Coverage renewal on June 18 and recommended renewing the incumbent coverage for $569,891. Kim Rupp, Director of Finance, and Taylor Pfannenstiel, Commercial Lines Executive with Insurance Planning Inc. (IPI), said the city's coverage is up for renewal on July 1, 2026; IPI solicited bids and reported one responsive quote was received from Midwest Public Risk (MPR). Staff concluded MPR still offers the lowest-cost renewal when considering premium, deductibles, claims handling, and service advantages.
Staff recommended the Commission authorize the City Manager to renew the 2026/2027 Property/Liability Coverages package in the amount of $569,891, to be funded from the Intergovernmental Insurance and Surety line item. Commissioners expressed appreciation for staff and IPI for taking the package to market. The authorization request will be placed on the June 25, 2026 Commission meeting agenda; no vote occurred at the work session.
