ODOT staff opened the public‑review phase for the draft Transportation Safety Action Plan, a data‑driven, statewide plan that identifies priority countermeasures and short‑term actions for 2026–2031 and sets a long‑term vision of zero fatalities and serious injuries by 2050. Mary McAllen (S14), the TSAP project manager, said the plan tiers emphasis areas so commissioners and partners can focus limited funding on measures that yield the largest reductions: top‑tier emphasis areas include intersections, roadway departures, speeding and impairment.
Staff said the draft sets a 2035 interim goal of a 30% reduction in fatalities and serious injuries and proposes a modest 1% reduction target for 2027 to reverse recent worsening trends. The public review period opens next week and will run through July, with a public hearing scheduled to the Oregon Transportation Safety Committee on July 8; staff intends to incorporate feedback and seek commission adoption in October.
