Town of Murray backs request for 30% county increase for snow, ice control and mowing

The Town of Murray board unanimously adopted a resolution July 7 supporting the Orleans County Highway Superintendents’ Association request for higher payments to towns for snow and ice control and roadside mowing. The resolution asks Orleans County, when renewing the five-year agreement due to expire Dec. 31, 2026, to raise rates by 30% effective Jan. 1, 2027, and to provide a 5% or Consumer Price Index annual increase for the remaining four years.
Councilperson Lloyd Christ moved the resolution and Councilperson Elaine Berg seconded; Supervisor Gerry Rightmyer and other board members voted to adopt it without objection. The text presented to the board states the increase is intended to “relieve the Towns of the cost from their budgets due to the current five-year agreement rates being paid.” The board did not specify a dollar figure for the town’s expected additional revenue from the change; the motion was recorded as unanimously adopted.
