Superintendent calls three-day Leadership Academy a springboard for instruction in LA JOYA ISD

La Joya ISD wrapped a three-day Leadership Academy this week designed to sharpen principals’ and assistant principals’ skills on curriculum and instruction, presenters said. "Over the last 3 days, principals and assistant principals have proudly engaged in our Leadership Academy," said Presenter 1, adding that the training emphasized the district’s responsibility to deliver "the very best curriculum in front of [students] every single day."

Presenters described practical components of the training, including calendar-building, strategies to maximize time with students and instructional coaching. "We've learned a variety of strategies of how to build out our calendars, how to ensure that we're maximizing time with students, and making sure that we are implementing, high quality instruction at all times," said Presenter 2. Presenter 3 said the sessions "dive[d] deeply into the strategic priorities of our district" and focused on how coaching models will support teachers at the campus level.

The district superintendent reflected on the Academy’s goals and thanked the academics and school leadership team for organizing the sessions. "This is gonna be the greatest year yet," the Superintendent said, and invited families to participate in the year ahead: "Parents, families, students we're waiting for you." The Superintendent also closed with a rallying remark about the upcoming year: "20 six-twenty 7 here we come."

District officials framed the Academy as preparation for the coming school year and an effort to ensure consistent instructional practices across campuses. No formal policy actions or votes were recorded during the remarks; presenters and the superintendent described the event as professional development and an initial step toward implementation of the district’s instructional priorities.
