The Hugo City Council on Monday voted to accept a $30,000 donation from the Hugo Firefighter Relief Association to purchase extrication tools for a rescue truck the council previously approved.
The Relief Association's president told the council the group's annual golf fundraiser sold out with 128 golfers and authorized the donation to pay for equipment not currently budgeted. "At our recent relief association general membership meeting, we authorized the donation of $30,000 to the city to buy extrication tools," the president said. Council moved and approved acceptance of the donation.
Mayor Mary Whitehead thanked the Relief Association and highlighted the role of community donations in placing AEDs and other life-saving equipment around Hugo. The acceptance requires no further council action; implementation and equipment procurement will be handled by the fire department and finance staff.
