District reports preliminary July enrollment and confirms fall calendar

Superintendent Larson provided enrollment figures run as of July 10: elementary enrollment was reported at about 2,078 students; intermediate at approximately 857; middle school at about 846; and high school at roughly 1,456, with 53 out-of-district placements. He cautioned that summer movement is fluid and that official counts are finalized on the last Friday in September, which is the date used for state funding calculations.
Larson also reviewed the academic calendar: Aug. 26 will be the first day for students in grades 1 through 12; junior kindergarten and kindergarten visitation days are Aug. 26 and 27 with classes beginning Aug. 28; and early childhood begins Aug. 31. "These numbers were run as of July 10," Larson stated when giving the snapshot. The board acknowledged the figures and did not take separate action on the enrollment report.
